About the Event
Join us for Future Health, Powered by AI — and Our Members, a cross sector gathering exploring how AI, transparency, and collaboration can drive a more affordable, higher value health system for Washington. The event features a dynamic fireside conversation with a practicing primary care internist, a digital health attorney, and a chief medical informatics officer, interactive networking across employers, labor, providers, and plans, and a recognition moment celebrating members who have advanced equity, quality, and system improvement in 2026.
This is an opportunity to reflect on shared progress, learn from emerging innovations, and align around the priorities shaping 2027 and beyond. Come connect, learn, and help shape the future of health in Washington.
Featured Panelists
A fireside conversation on what AI actually changes for Washington’s health system — from the exam room to the contract to the data governing both.
Dr. Kavita Chawla is a primary-care internist practicing at the intersection of value-based care, knowledge translation of evidence-based medicine, and clinical education. She serves as Vice Chair of the Washington Health Alliance Quality Improvement Committee.
For almost a decade she has led Evidence-Based Medicine Dissemination and Implementation for Virginia Mason Medical Center’s Department of Primary Care, accelerating adoption of updated clinical guidelines and practice-changing research — work published in the British Medical Journal. That same discipline shapes how she thinks about AI in medicine: not as a threat or a replacement, but as a tool that must earn clinicians’ trust through evidence rigor and workflow fit, and produce measurable improvement in outcomes meaningful to patients.
As Medical Director of Value-Based Arrangements and Clinician Engagement, she engages frontline physicians and advanced practice providers with value-based care to achieve the quintuple aim — work she believes AI can meaningfully accelerate through systems solutions that reduce clinician burnout while optimizing patient care. Dr. Chawla is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and earned her MD/MHA from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health.
Dave Schoolcraft has worked for more than 25 years at the intersection of health care, law, and all things digital, advising provider organizations and technology companies seeking to drive health system transformation.
He leads a national practice advising clients on technology licensing, artificial intelligence, data governance, and health information privacy and security. Dave is also the founder of the Digital Health Counsel AI Summit, an annual event bringing together professionals working on the next wave of AI and data-driven innovation in health care.
Dr. Brett Daniel is a family physician and the Chief Medical Informatics Officer for Optum Health. He leads clinical technology and clinic enablement for Optum across the United States and is a clinical member of the AI Review Board for UnitedHealth Group. His goals for AI are better quality outcomes, more affordable care, improved clinician experience, and a simpler patient journey.
