EvergreenHealth recognized as national leader in diabetes care
EvergreenHealth, a Washington Health Alliance member, was recognized Wednesday as leading hospital in caring for people living with diabetes by the Leapfrog Group and the American Diabetes Association.
EvergreenHealth was among the 17 hospitals selected nationally for outstanding diabetes care.
“These hospitals are leading the nation in dedication to people with diabetes. Safe, effective, patient-centered care from hospital admission through a patient’s return home lowers risks of serious health complications and improves outcomes for people living with diabetes,” said Robert Gabbay, MD, PhD, the American Diabetes Association’s chief scientific and medical officer.
Like much of the country, Washington state continues to see a rise in the number of residents diagnosed with diabetes. According to the American Diabetes Association, roughly 10 percent of all Washingtonians have diabetes, and 34 percent suffer from prediabetes, a condition in which blood glucose levels are heightened but do not measure high enough to be considered type 2 diabetes.
According to the Leapfrog Group, of which the Alliance is a regional leader, this new recognition of top hospitals for diabetes care weighs patient care from admission through discharge.
