Washington Health Benefit Exchange joins the Alliance

This month, we’re excited to welcome the Washington Health Benefit Exchange as the newest member of the Alliance.

The Washington Health Benefit Exchange is a public-private partnership established in accordance with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (ACA) to implement a new health insurance marketplace for individuals and small businesses. The Exchange is separate from the state and governed by an independent 11-member board.

The Exchange is an important stakeholder in our health care market. Since going live on Oct. 1, 2013, nearly 2 million people – one out of every four Washington residents – have used Washington Healthplanfinder to secure health insurance coverage at low or no cost. A recent Gallup Survey found that the state’s uninsured rate has dropped more from 16.8 to 6.4 percent since the opening of the Exchange – the fifth highest such decline in the nation.

We look forward to collaborating with the Exchange to drive the health care market to one that rewards value.

About Washington Health Alliance

The Washington Health Alliance is a place where stakeholders work collaboratively to transform Washington state’s health care system for the better. The Alliance brings together organizations that share a commitment to drive change in our health care system by offering a forum for critical conversation and aligned efforts by stakeholders: purchasers, providers, health plans, consumers and other health care partners. The Alliance believes strongly in transparency and offers trusted and credible reporting of progress on measures of health care quality and value. The Alliance is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) nonprofit with more than 185 member organizations. A cornerstone of the Alliance's work is the Community Checkup, a report to the public comparing the performance of medical groups, hospitals and health plans and offering a community-level view on important measures of health care quality (www.wacommunitycheckup.org).
