Washington State gets federal support for Healthier Washington plan

Governor Inslee announced yesterday morning that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has awarded Washington State $1.5 billion for Medicaid transformation as part of the governor’s Healthier Washington initiative. We applaud the hard work and negotiations our colleagues at the State engaged in to reach an agreement in-principle with CMS. The 1115 Medicaid Waiver will have a significant impact on health care reform in our state.

We are proud to partner with the State on the Healthier Washington initiative. We believe our efforts to increase transparency, convene stakeholders and educate purchasers and consumers will aid the state’s efforts to better serve Medicaid enrollees overall. We have already played a part in the Healthier Washington initiative and are eager to keep supporting it through public reporting of performance and engaging providers, purchasers and consumers in the hard work of health care transformation.

About Washington Health Alliance

The Washington Health Alliance is a place where stakeholders work collaboratively to transform Washington state’s health care system for the better. The Alliance brings together organizations that share a commitment to drive change in our health care system by offering a forum for critical conversation and aligned efforts by stakeholders: purchasers, providers, health plans, consumers and other health care partners. The Alliance believes strongly in transparency and offers trusted and credible reporting of progress on measures of health care quality and value. The Alliance is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) nonprofit with more than 185 member organizations. A cornerstone of the Alliance's work is the Community Checkup, a report to the public comparing the performance of medical groups, hospitals and health plans and offering a community-level view on important measures of health care quality (www.wacommunitycheckup.org).
